MICK GORDON on DOOM 2k16 Soundtrack

Our sister website Prog Sphere recently talked with Mick Gordon, sound designer and composer based in Australia who worked on a soundtrack for the new DOOM, but also on Wolfenstein and Killer Instinct remakes.

Mick used his 9-string Schecter Damien Platinum 9 on DOOM‘s soundtrack. He commented: “It’s fairly basic – super light. I think I’ll swap out the pickups in the future – the stock EMGs tend to fall apart with the lower notes. I have a beautiful Mayones 8 string that I used a lot on the game – it’s featured in BFG Division. It was BKP Aftermaths in it and they hold up really well.

Asked about the tuning of Schecter Damien 9, Mick said: “It’s really stupid – ADADADGBE. Damn, right? Anyway, the point is that you have three octaves in a single fret. This frees your fingers up for other bits and you don’t have to hold weird shapes on the huge neck.
